Clemson football is close to wrapping up int’s 2023 recruiting class, if recruiting classes can ever be considered final until pen is put to paper and the fax machine is dusted off.

The Tigers currently sit at number 8 in the 247sports.com composite rankings and have 20 commitments in the 2023 class.

One that we’ve been tracking is four star defensive lineman Kayden McDonald of Suwanee, Georgia, who’s popped up over and over.

McDonald recently announced a commitment date of October 31 and announced has planned official visits to Michigan on September 10, Ohio State on September 24.

McDonald has recently been connected to Clemson and there’s even a crystal ball to the Tigers on 247 for the 6’3, 310 pound defender.

Is this a case of a young man enjoying his recruitment prior to committing or is there something more to the Big 10 trips?

Recently this recruitment has trended towards a Clemson – Florida battle, but you can’t help but wonder what happens when the Columbus NIL train gets involved.

McDonald is the 296th rated player overall, 43rd rated defensive lineman and 28th best player in Georgia per the 247sports.com composite ranking.

The Tigers would be willing to over sign at the position to get McDonald’s commitment, which shows you Clemson values McDonald’s skills.

With Nick Eason doing the recruiting and Clemson’s defensive line gaining acclaim as the best in the land, you’d have to think the Tigers have a good shot with McDonald.

The Tigers have Peter Woods (number 30 overall), Vic Burley (406), Stephiylan Green (206), A.J. Hoffler (292) and David Ojiegbe (233) committed along the defensive front and McDonald would add one more piece to an already incredible haul along the front seven.

This one’s a little different in that McDonald is scheduled to visit Tiger Town for the South Carolina game after his commitment date and long after his visits to Big 10 country.

It sounds a bit strange on the surface, at least to me, but from what I’ve heard it’ll only be strange if he chooses someone other than Clemson.
